The International Rescue Committe, an US-based Aid Relief Organisation, reports that the ongoing war in the Democratic Republic of Congo have meant that almost 4 million people have lost their lives. This was announced in a survey report that was released on December 9, 2004. The survey is based on interviews with 58.000 families covering 90% of the country and the estimates show that the civil war in Congo, which has been going on for six years and involves six nations and a number of proxy militias, is the deadliest war in the world since World War II. The survey report can be downloaded from IRC's web site.
